So, there's this huge language barrier in Final Fantasy 11. Both Japanese and English speaking players play on the same server. Usually not a problem, everyone gets along real well, and there's an auto-translate function.
The only real problem come from Americans' reputation as newbs. For some reason, 90% of all new players come in just thinking that Japanese players are better.
On the same token, 90% of Japanese players refuse to party with an english speaking player (whereas most party hungry NA players will take what they can get).

Yesterday, in a party, while looking to replace a member who was leaving, I got turned down by about 10 JP players. Nothing out of the ordinary BUT: This one guy in the party starts ripping into me. Lecturing me on Japanese ideals, how they're more xenophobic, how they don't replace members cuz it's party over self, etc.

"Besides, you probably offended someone Japanese at some point." Now, my own good reputation aside, OH NO! Do you realize what this entails? If I upset one Japanese player, they all suddenly know? All of them?
I've alerted the Japanese Hive Mind! Clearly, all of Japan is one collective consciousness, quite possibly constantly conspiring against the rest of us. Of course, if you are Japanese, you already know all of this. You know the level of every Japanese player and the attitude of every American one.
You've already inspired fear into at least one pompous level 70 red mage.

     Borg society.
A whole new meaning to "I'm turning Japanese."
     I really think so.
